Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure which introduces micro-channels into the skin using a 12 to 62 pin microneedling device.

This procedure creates a "controlled trauma" and stimulates the wound healing process. This results in the increased production of collagen and elastin.

Wound Healing Process

Phase One: Hemostasis

Hemostasis is the first stage in the healing process. During this stage the aim is to stop any bleeding. At this stage platelets (blood cells) attach to collagen resulting in activation. As microneedling causes "controlled trauma" bleeding is minimal and inflammation monitored.

Phase Two: Inflammation

The second stage in the healing process focuses of removing debris and bacteria. The specialist cells which help to achieve this, secrete growth factors and proteins which aid skin repair.

Phase Three: Proliferation

Proliferation, is one of the final active stages within the wound healing process. This stage new collagen is produced and the wound 'filled'. It is during this stage that Microneedling is effective for scarring and skin rejuvenation.

Phase Four: Maturation

The final stage in the wound healing process is maturation. During this stage the tissue strengthens and it near fully restored.

The entire process is normally complete between day 21-28.
